The advancements in technology have meant even more sedentary behavior with personal computers and television watching. Prolonged periods of sitting are now commonplace during work, domestic and recreational activities. <P /><P />It is estimated that 85 percent of the world&#8217;s workforce now work seated and the amount of idle sitting time has dramatically increased in the 16 hour period people are generally awake each day. The problem is this sitting time is sedentary time which is defined as the absence of whole body movement. This is now closely associated with common and deadly diseases in our society today such as, obesity, heart disease, diabetes and disorders of the metabolism (the body&#8217;s engine).<P /><P />The root cause of this is the fact that when sitting and immobile the enzyme lipase is prevented from doing its job processing and breaking down fat and sugar in the blood so it can be absorbed by the muscles as fuel reserves. Only when muscles are moving and working is this enzyme distributed throughout the body so it can do its work.<P /><P />When inactive as in prolonged sitting the circulation of lipase is shut down which leaves fat and sugar in the blood stream to re-circulate and either become stored as body fat or to clog arteries or damage other organs and tissues. So then, it is easy to see why people who spend a lot of time sitting have two to three times the rates of obesity, heart disease and diabetes.<P /><P />The only way to offset these negatives aspects of sitting is to get stuck into an intentional proper exercise program made up mostly of strength training exercise. Two to three sessions each week will go a long way to offset some of the negative aspects of sitting. <P /><P />This type of exercise program is not some &#8216;optional&#8217; extra &#8211; it is imperative to reduce the risks of major disease that affects fifty percent of the world&#8217;s population. <P /><P />Too much sitting time will kill you; there are no &#8216;ifs&#8217; and &#8216;buts&#8217; about it. To protect yourself from this doing the right type of exercise is critical. Activities like walking, jogging or cycling are recreational activities and do not replace a proper exercise program that works the muscles through their ranges of movement under a load. <P /><P />As the human body is made up of 50 percent muscle tissue time spent exercising has to be done right or it will be time wasted. Keep your low intensity activities for after you have done your strength training program. This should always come first and foremost and energy and &#8216;effort&#8217; put into it so you get the most &#8216;bang for your buck&#8217;. <P /><P />To protect your own life you might need to do something that might feel uncomfortable and unnatural, especially at first. You need to move and exert yourself on a regular and consistent basis to offset the damage caused by too much sitting. <P /><P />But after you have overcome your inertia and have gotten used to your new found activeness; you will become aware of the immediate benefits to you physical, mental and emotional well-being. You will also recognize that staying strong was exactly what your body needed for it to stay youthful and vital. <P /><P /><br />

This refers to a situation in which the sides of the nail grow towards the inside of the toe. This should not be confused with callus which is caused by pressure on the toe due to shoes or long walks.</p>
<p>So what really causes the ingrown toe nail? There are those who have the suggested that cutting of the nail in a wrong way would make the nail grow in a bad or misdirected way. The sharp edges that have been cut poorly would lead to pressure on the sides of the nail.</p>
<p>The pressure points that are caused by the ingrown toe nail would expose the toe to nail fungus infection. The candidas fungi or the dermatophy type of fungi would grow their roots. These are called hyphae which are simple or rudimentary forms of roots. The prerequisite for the fungal infection is the damp toe or the softened nail plate. This is what you will have to prevent by not allowing the toes to be wet. You can also prevent nail fungus infection by making sure that the nail plate remains strong. Protect it from the weakening of the hard plate by not having corrosive materials such as nail polish remover.</p>
<p>In the case of ingrown toenail, you may need to see a podiatrist to advice on the management of the pressure points. The danger is usually in the development of a septic wound from the point of growth of the ingrown nail. There may be a need to take some anti-biotic and to prevent the formation of pus from the bacterial activity.</p>
<p>Because of the danger of second chance in growth of the ingrown nail, you will need to have treatment that will prevent any further growth. A surgical procedure may be necessary to prevent the recurrence of the nail growing into the toes.</p>
<p>Some of the remedies that have been known to prevent the growth of the nail includes the use of acids. Before you get the stronger acids that may have a negative effect on the toe, make use f natural acids such as vinegar. In a stronger concentration, it is able to prevent further nail growth and also protect the toe nail from nail fungus infection.</p>

Perhaps include making the snack while you&#8217;re making lunch or breakfast, and set it aside to wait.<P /><P />Once a healthy alternative is chosen and reserved specifically for our evening enjoyment, it is important to pick the time that we have our snack. Since going to sleep on a full belly can cause all sorts of trouble for our sleep patterns and brain chemistry, ideally our last meal should be three hours before bed. But be sure not to wait too long between snack and bed because new cravings can cause our resolve to weaken. <P /><P /><b>Shifting the habit:</b> To ease into your new routine, start out by having your snack about 1.5 to 2 hours before your bedtime. This is a narrow enough window that your body can have a chance to settle its meal and let you rest properly without disrupting your rest cycle too much. After a day or two to get used to this schedule, begin moving the time back by five minutes each night. Each step gives you more time between meal and bed, and in 30-60 days you&#8217;ll be regularly enjoying your nightly snack 3 hours before bedtime without fail.<P /><P /><b>Habit Two &#8211; Closing the Kitchen</b><P /><P />Controlling our environment is an important step in controlling our diet. Smokers trying to quit often report that it&#8217;s hardest to do when others around them are smoking, or when they put themselves in an environment where smoking is an option. The same holds true for snacking; when we see the option readily available, it gets harder to say no. So one important step once we&#8217;ve had our healthy pre-bed snack is to close the kitchen for the night.<P /><P /><b>Shifting the habit:</b> The trick here is to use mnemonic devices and environmental clues to help take control. Don&#8217;t go to the kitchen for your last snack absently, head there while saying, &#8220;This is my last trip to the kitchen tonight.&#8221; Mark the time, have your snack, and then say &#8220;closing time&#8221; aloud. Make a sign in big letters saying &#8216;CLOSED&#8217; and hang it on the door to the kitchen, or over the refrigerator handle. Put up clues to remind yourself that you&#8217;ve made the commitment and you are going to stick to it!<P /><P /><b>Habit Three-Setting the Scene</b><P /><P />Once the kitchen is officially &#8220;closed,&#8221; help redirect your mind from snacking mode to bedtime mode. With a few subtle changes, you can psychologically prepare yourself for rest, relaxation and, eventually, sleep-an equation that doesn&#8217;t have room for snacking. <P /><P /><b>Shifting the habit:</b> Floss and brush your teeth immediately after your snack instead of waiting until you go to bed, so you have a sense of being done for the day. Also, light a scented candle or incense to replace the scent of food aromas that may linger and distract you from your commitment.<P /><P />Again, late night snacking is nothing to feel ashamed of. Our bodies get hungry, and sometimes we actually do need to eat a bit more food. The key is understanding that if we take in more calories than we burn, we&#8217;re not going to lose the weight and maintain healthy eating habits. But it is also important to understand that it only takes small steps and habits that we can build with only 30 to 60 days of work to take back control of our snacking tendencies, and make them work for us instead of against us.<br />
